X-Men ’97 Season 2 Titles Hint at a Dead Hero’s Return, Wolverine’s Adamantium & More

X-Men ’97 Season 2 possibly teased the return of a fan-favorite hero and other intriguing developments through some episode titles. The sophomore installment launches on Disney+ in a few days.

Gambit’s return possibly confirmed by X-Men ’97 Season 2

X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 8, titled “The Dead Man’s Hand,” suggests that Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit will return from the dead. This possibility was seemingly hinted at in the post-credits scene of the Season 1 finale. While exploring Genosha, Apocalypse comes across one of Gambit’s playing cards and remarks, “So much death…”

Going by this tease, the ancient mutant could resurrect Gambit at some point and make him the Horseman of Death.

The character earlier heroically sacrificed himself in Season 1 Episode 5, “Remember It,” to destroy Master Mold and save the survivors of the Sentinels’ attack on Genosha. His death devastated Rogue and set her on a dark path, leading her to lose faith in Charles Xavier and join Magneto in his plan to create a haven for mutants on Asteroid M.

Meanwhile, Episode 5, “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs,” possibly teases Wolverine regaining his adamantium claws after Season 1’s penultimate episode showed Magneto brutally ripping the adamantium skeleton from his body.

Finally, X-Men ’97 Season 2 Episode 7, “Strange Land, Savage Heart,” seemingly confirms that the X-Men will visit the Savage Land. Previously, X-Men: The Animated Series included several episodes in which the group visited the region. They initially went in the two-parter Season 2 finale, “Reunion,” to rescue Xavier, Magneto, and Jean Grey after Mister Sinister, the Nasty Boys, and mutants captured and took them there. The team later revisited the area in the Season 3 two-parter, “Savage Land, Strange Heart,” to save Storm after Sauron kidnapped her to feed from her mutant energy.

X-Men ’97 Season 2 premieres with its first three episodes on Disney+ on July 1, 2026. The returning voice cast includes Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, and George Buza, among others.
