Netflix’s The Four Seasons co-creators, Lang Fisher and Tracy Wigfield, offered comforting news about Season 3. Their statement comes as the streaming giant has yet to greenlight the next installment. Furthermore, the potential new season would also feature a new character played by a beloved actor.
The Four Seasons creator wants to return for Season 3 on Netflix
The Four Seasons returned for its second season on Netflix last week, on May 28. It delivered yet another blend of lighthearted comedy and midlife drama. The season ended on a cliffhanger with the introduction of a new character, and the show’s creators have already hinted at what’s next.
During an exclusive interview with ComingSoon, co-creators Lang Fisher and Tracy Wigfield revealed that they’ve started working on Season 3 in the writer’s room just a few weeks ago.
Speaking about the new character introduced in the Season 2 finale, Fisher said, “That surprise new friend is in the group now. So we were very excited to have him appear, yeah, that’s kind of our big cliffhanger in it. It’s another way that, like this group that’s been together forever, is now changing up with a little bit of new blood.”
The new character, Gianpiero, is played by Doctor Who star David Tennant. Further details about the character and its effects on the group’s dynamic are currently under wraps.
Fisher and Wigfield co-created the show with their longtime collaborator, Tina Fey. The trio has an impressive track record of producing and writing hit shows individually as well, such as 30 Rock and The Mindy Project. Credentials like these would seem to make the show an easy choice for renewal. But its future ultimately depends on one thing: how many viewers it attracts.
For comparison, Season 1 reportedly drew more than 51 million viewers within one week of its 2025 premiere (via RadioTimes). Now, FlixPatrol’s data for May 31, 2026, reveals that Season 2 is currently the #1 show in the U.S. This indicates a favorable trend. Meanwhile, Netflix has yet to make viewership numbers public, which will likely determine whether the series will continue.
The Four Seasons follows six longtime friends whose seasonal vacations are disrupted when one couple’s marriage collapses. It features an impressive star cast that includes Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Erika Henningsen, Kerri Kenney, Will Forte, and Marco Calvani, among others.
The first two seasons are now available to stream on Netflix. Meanwhile, the streaming giant has yet to renew it for Season 3.
