Sitcoms are rarely meant to be realistic, but when it comes to characters and employment, some shows take it to another level. It really doesn't matter what kind of show it is, either. Whether an actual workplace comedy like Parks and Recreation or a long-running animated series like The Simpsons, just about every popular sitcom seems to embrace a common set of tropes. Without fail, there's always that one character (at the very least) who manages to live life large despite their low income, lack of employment, incompetence, or general outrageous approach to working.
