Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) risks the wrath of creepy copper Craig Ingram (Matthew James Bailey) next week in EastEnders.

Emerging in the investigation into the attack on Joel Marshall (Max Murray), Craig’s behaviour toward Amy immediately unsettled viewers, and when he discovered that she was the attacker, it became incredibly clear that he intended to use the information to further manipulate her.

EastEnders bosses later revealed that Amy and Craig would both feature in a grooming plot, as his dark behaviour only continues to intensify.

Last month saw Craig being fired as a police officer, and while viewers had previously learned that he was under investigation for gross misconduct, Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) learned what’d actually been happening, and told Callum Highway (Tony Clay): Craig had tried to seduce a young, female colleague by promising to help her progress in her career, before harassing her when she knocked him back.

With this being the second incident involving his conduct, the police had cut their losses and binned the predator off, but when confronted by Amy, Craig used his sacking as yet another tool to manipulate her with, letting her believe he’d lost his career due to lying about her involvement in Joel’s battering.

Despite her anxiety around sleeping with Craig, he continued to push, and after they had sex, used it as another means of asserting control by gaslighting her.

Next week sees Craig continue to demand all of Amy’s attention, and despite Denise Fox’s (Diane Parish) pleas for her to focus on her studies, she finds herself torn between her obligations and Craig blowing up her phone.

Feeling the growing disconnect from her friends, Amy invites Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) to hang out with her at Craig’s flat, though she remains blissfully unaware that Lily has told Ricky Branning (Frankie Day).

While they’re there, Jack receives a phone call from Amy’s school, who tell him that she’s been playing hooky more often than not recently, and as he turns to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) for advice, the rest of the Walford teens descend on Craig’s flat.

Jack has a frank conversation with Amy later, though she neglects to tell him anything about Craig, and he’s left under the impression that Diane’s illness is the reason her education is suffering.

While she seems to have managed to successfully put that fire out, she’s not out of the woods entirely, when Craig finds evidence that Amy has had her friends in his flat, and he’s not impressed.

As Amy falls further and further under Craig’s poisonous influence, can anyone help her?

EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 12th October at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
