Chris Hansen isn’t holding back on Primetime. He called Robert Pattinson‘s movie “over the top” in a brutally honest reaction. The movie features the Hollywood star as Hansen, former reality TV series host of To Catch a Predator, on Dateline NBC.
In a podcast episode of Have a Seat with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Hansen expressed his unfiltered review. “I think it’s so far over the top that it’s hard to come to grips with what they’re trying to do here.”
He then revealed the aspect he disliked the most: “In all honesty, what bothered me most was it portrayed me as an aloof, detached father to my sons.”
Why Chris Hansen believes Primetime misrepresents his life and work
Chris Hansen was upset with his on-screen character’s overall treatment in Primetime. He said, “You know, in a way it’s a hit piece on me and the series, which is weird because all we do is expose bad human beings who try to hurt children. So, in that respect, it’s sort of an insult to the thousands of men and women who go out every day to do the same thing that I try to do in Takedown and did in To Catch a Predator.”
Additionally, Hansen also revealed that A24 made the movie without his “consult and consideration, and they use my name, image, and likeness.” He called Primetime “pure fiction. They mix in some reality here and there. At the end of the day, I wasn’t blown away by it either way.”
The psychological crime thriller is helmed by Lance Oppenheim. Its ensemble cast also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Jessica Hecht, Jonathan Lipnicki, Tony Revolori, and more.
Since its release last week, the movie has received mostly favorable reviews from critics and fans. Currently, it holds an 87% Tomatometer score and an 80% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Primetime is now playing in theaters.
