“Since Grand Theft Auto first arrived on the original PlayStation in 1997, the series has defined generations of play. Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 6 will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19,” reads a blog post from Sony.
The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller will bring players the “sights, sounds, and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story” into the palm of their hands. “The controller’s haptic feedback offers responsive vibrations, while its adaptive triggers provide dynamic resistance. The controller’s integrated speaker also adds another dimension to key moments and interactions, with sound effects from the controller enhanced by haptic feedback.”
PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3C AudioTech and ultra-high speed SSD will also help bring the world of Grand Theft Auto 6 to life “in unmatched ways” and create “near-instant” load times.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19 for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. A PC and Nintendo Switch 2 version are rumoured, but no release date has been confirmed.
The boss of publisher Take-Two Interactive is expecting people to bunk off work to play day one. However, some indie stores are boycotting the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 due to the lack of a proper physical release. Instead of a disc, Rockstar is selling a code in a box. Other fans aren’t happy that several in-game stores are locked behind a $20 paywall.
In other news, the PlayStation 6 could cost more than $1000 with Sony refusing to sell consoles at a loss.
