At Supergirl’s premiere, Corenswet was in disbelief when the interviewer from Entertainment Tonight showed him the image of the viral cup. “I don’t like that one bit,” he said. Nicholas Hoult, who seemed to have been familiar with the merchandise, joked, “I need a lot of those.”

The Twisters actor continued, “I don’t understand, and I don’t think I want it explained.” Hoult, once again, leaned into the joke and said, “It reminds me of…” but Corenswet cut him off and said, “No no no no no.”

The cup, released by Cinépolis, was seemingly meant to resemble Supergirl’s blue-and-red suit covered by her jacket. However, many fans pointed out that the design’s color and shape give it an unfortunate appearance, prompting strong reactions online.

Supergirl arrives in theaters this week, on June 26. It is an adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic book miniseries, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It will introduce Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, to the DCU. Craig Gillespie directed the film with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Meanwhile, James Gunn and Peter Safran served as producers.

House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock headlines the film as the titular character.  She is joined by Jason Momoa as Lobo, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills. Corenswet’s Superman will also have a few scenes, bringing a brother-sister dynamic to the story.
