Anne Hathaway has admitted she was mortified when footage of her at the premiere of her latest film Verity went viral.

Last week, the Oscar winner joined her co-stars at a glitzy screening of her new movie – which is her fifth to hit cinemas in 2026.

During the event, she and the film’s cast and crew attempted to stage a group photo on the red carpet, with Anne springing into action to direct the moment so each photographer got their shot.

This moment – which she later described as her going into “mom mode” – then made its way onto the internet, racking up more than one million views on TikTok alone.

A day later, Anne paid a visit to The Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon told her: “The premiere for the movie was last night and something was going viral today that made me laugh, and I have to show this video of you…”

“Do it. I know exactly what you’re going to show,” she interrupted. “It can only be one thing. It’s horrifying. It’s the stuff of nightmares.”

Clearly struggling to watch the clip, Anne then explained: “The thing about it was I was trying to be helpful. There were so many of us, and the photographers were getting upset, and so the vibe was changing, and I was just trying to be helpful. And so, I did the thing!

“And as soon as I was done, I went, ‘oh no – there’s also video!’. And I went into a full cringe crouch on the inside.”

“So, I apologise, everybody,” she joked. “That girl came out to play last night. And actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business.”

Anne features alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the new erotic thriller, adapted from the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name.

Due to the late stage of her pregnancy, the Devil Wears Prada star did not attend the movie’s London premiere, where HuffPost UK spoke to both Dakota and Josh about the film.

Verity is in cinemas now.
