WNBA Broadcast Audio Reveals What Paige Bueckers Said During Her Verbal Exchange With Caitlin Clark In the All-Star Game

The WNBA All-Star Game might officially be just an exhibition, but for the opening few minutes, Caitlin Clark looked like someone on a mission. After scoring the first points of the game, intercepting Paige Bueckers’ very first pass of the night for an easy layup, Clark immediately caught fire from well beyond the three-point line. She was draining logo shot after logo shot and leaving everyone inside Chicago’s United Center in disbelief.

As it appears, it was not only the fans in the stands who were left in disbelief. Paige Bueckers, who was watching every one of those logo bombs from just a few feet away, also couldn’t help but acknowledge the explosiveness with which Clark started the game. And in fact, she was convinced that was an MVP-type performance. 

“You going for MVP? Damn!,” she said. As shared by the ESPNW page, the WNBA broadcast also caught Clark saying, “I’m just going to keep going.”

Caitlin Clark ended up draining three of those logo threes successively. But while drilling back-to-back logo threes to explode for 11 points in her first four minutes on the court was definitely the kind of start that had her heading toward the game’s MVP award, she ultimately did not end up with the honor.

Going into the night, Clark was actually the frontrunner for the award, and Bueckers was third on that list. But New York Liberty center Jonquel Jones instead took home the All-Star Game MVP trophy. In doing so, she became the only player to have now won all four distinct MVP awards: the WNBA Regular Season MVP, the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup MVP, the WNBA Finals MVP, and now the WNBA All-Star Game MVP.

Jones, who was also on Team Spoon and finished the game with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists in 22 minutes played. Clark, meanwhile, ended the game with 17 points, five assists, four rebounds, and one steal in 21 minutes. The performance considerably outdid her four-point stat line from her All-Star debut in 2024. She had missed the game entirely in 2025 due to injury. And of course, both Clark’s and Jones’ performances contributed to Team Spoon’s eventual 129-122 victory. However, Clark did deliver the long shots she promised ahead of the game.

As for Paige Bueckers, she was playing on the losing side, Team Coop. She did, however, also put together quite a performance of her own. In 25 minutes, the Dallas Wings rookie recorded 12 points, seven assists, and one steal.

Overall, it was an interesting and entertaining game even though it was much slower than what the W fans are used to, and fans who came out definitely got their money’s worth. In fact, like Paige Bueckers, many of them would undoubtedly have been in awe of the back-to-back logo bombs that Clark was sinking.
