Sylvester Stallone has revealed why he rejected the Hollywood ambassador role Donald Trump announced for him in 2025. The Rocky star said he never formally agreed to the position and was surprised to learn about the appointment while watching television. The actor later explained that he did not believe the role would work within Hollywood’s structure.

Sylvester Stallone on why he turned down Donald Trump’s Hollywood ambassador job

As per The Times, Stallone said he had not agreed to Donald Trump’s Hollywood ambassador role beforehand and only learned that he had been selected while watching television.

“I was watching TV one night, and they go, ‘So Stallone and Mel Gibson and Jon Voight will be …’ And I went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Excuse me? Really?’ Because if they had asked me in the beginning, I would have said, ‘This is not possible,’” he recalled. 

The 80-year-old also pointed out that he, Gibson, and Voight are accustomed to working independently, which further complicated the overall idea. He said, “I guess (Hollywood is) like feudal states. They have their little kingdoms. You don’t go in and tell six studios how to do things. And Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we’re kind of do-our-own-thing people. No, it won’t work.”

After discussing the matter with Trump, Stallone decided against taking on the position. He noted, “I said ‘Thank you’ and ‘Ciao,’ because it’s impossible. Hollywood works, and it will evolve. It’s corporate, and corporate people won’t want to hear me tell them about finance.”

Trump announced Stallone, Gibson, and Voight as “special ambassadors” to Hollywood in January 2025 through Truth Social. At the time, the president said they would act as his special envoys, with the goal of helping bring Hollywood back to the United States after the industry had lost significant business to foreign countries over the previous four years. He expressed his hope that they could help make Hollywood bigger, better, and stronger than ever.
