Sofia Vergara had to spend an evening in the emergency room instead of attending this year’s 77th Emmy Awards. Following a sudden allergic reaction, the Modern Family actor had to be taken to the hospital.

Why Sofía Vergara didn’t make it to Emmys 2025

On September 14, 2025, the America’s Got Talent judge, Sofia Vergara, was hit with a sudden eye allergy. It happened right before she was about to head to the 77th Emmy Awards. She took to her official Instagram account to update the fans on her health and the reason why she’s missing the award ceremony this year.

Vergara uploaded a photo and clips of herself at the hospital with a carousel post. It was accompanied by a caption that read, “Didnt make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER. [Sorry] I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car!”

The first slide is a close-up photo of her eye allergy. The second slide shows her lying on a hospital bed, and the third slide shows Vergara rinsing her eye.

The 53-year-old actress was scheduled to present an award at the Emmys this year. She was one of the star-studded lineup, as per the press release. Following the post, her followers and other celebrities, including Terry Crews, commented with well-wishes for a speedy recovery.

For those who are curious, the winners of this year’s Emmy Awards are out.

HBO Max’s The Pitt won five awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. However, it was Apple TV+’s The Studio that led the night with a remarkable 13 wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series. The Studio’s achievements also included multiple wins for Seth Rogen, who took home awards for Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Many other shows like Severance, The Penguin, and Adolescence took home awards in multiple categories, too.
