Nikki actor Melody Thomas Scott also spoke about this in a recent discussion with SoapSteph’s Daily Dish.

“Head Writer Josh Griffith shared with me that something exciting was coming up for Nikki, but I was unaware of the details/direction until I started reading the scripts,” Melody said, “I’ve always preferred finding out about the story as I’m learning the material rather than knowing the entire story arc in advance.”

Once Scott discovered what was coming for Nikki, she started preparing. “I’ve never played a character with this new diagnosis that Nikki will receive,” she said, “so I spent more time than usual doing research and prepping. I wanted to make sure my portrayal of Nikki’s experience was as authentic as possible.”

Given the history of soap operas like Young and the Restless, this also has the potential of being fatal for the character.

The upcoming episodes will be crucial in understanding which direction Nikki’s arc takes.
