The once-tight relationship between Michael Corinthos and his uncle, Drew Cain, has gone south, first due to Drew carrying on an affair with Michael’s then-wife, Willow Tait, and more recently because of how dirty Drew is playing in his efforts to wrest custody of Michael’s kids away from him to score points with Willow. While their characters’ animosity reaches a fever pitch on General Hospital, it’s nothing but love behind the scenes for actors Rory Gibson (Michael) and Cameron Mathison (Drew).

“It’s kind of funny,” grins Gibson of the sharp contrast between his on- and off-screen dynamic with Mathison. “It’s kind of like this with Katey [MacMullen, Willow], too — every time I have a scene with Katey, I feel like we’re just screaming at each other, and then behind the scenes it’s just, like, laughs and hugs and high fives. It’s kind of the same with Cam. When he and I have scenes together, it’s basically just me and him death-staring at each other the whole time and seeing who’s going to blink first and and trying so desperate, desperately not to blink. It’s like, ‘No, man, I’m gonna win this situation!’ But then the second the cameras are off, he’s just such a nice, cool guy. He’s such a good conversationalist; he’s so personable, he’s so friendly. He’s just a great dude – a great dude that does a really, really good job at playing a not-great dude! So, I’m very, very impressed by him.”

The pair’s real-life relationship got a chance to flourish even more when Gibson was assigned a permanent GH dressing room after floating around for a bit. “I feel like I’m in enemy territory because I’m right across from Katey and Cameron!” he reports. “She’s literally right across from me, and he’s kitty-corner from me. I love both of them, but I remember that when we had some intense scenes to shoot, I was like, ‘I feel like I’m going to come out and we’re going to see each other and be like, ‘Let’s go to war!’ ”
