Why Colin Farrell Doesn’t Want The Penguin Season 2 To Happen

Even though his turn as the titular villain in HBO’s The Penguin has earned him a Golden Globe Award and two Primetime Emmy nominations, Colin Farrell remains unconvinced that a second season of the series would be a step in the right direction. In a recent interview, Farrell opened up about the possibility of a follow-up to The Penguin series, while also sharing his reservations about such a project.

Colin Farrell doesn’t think The Penguin Season 2 is ‘a good idea’

During a conversation with Deadline, Colin Farrell expressed that going ahead with The Penguin Season 2 might not be in the best interest of the HBO miniseries.

“I have no idea if it’s happening,” the veteran actor said about the current status of The Penguin Season 2. He then shared his viewpoint on the idea, admitting that he’d prefer not to continue with the Batman spin-off series. “I know that I heard rumblings that they were thinking they’d like to do a second season, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea. I don’t know the way you go back to the trough … And part of me wants to go, ‘Just let it go, people. We got away with it. Leave it as it is,'” Farrell explained.

Despite his skepticism about the future of The Penguin series, the Academy Award nominee reiterated that he’ll return for Season 2 if the makers can whip up an unmissable story. “Look, if they came up with a fantastic idea or something like that, of course, I’d be open to it,” Farrell remarked.

While the possibility of The Penguin Season 2 remains up in the air as of now, Farrell will be reprising his role of the resourceful mobster in the upcoming Batman Part 2 for Matt Reeves. In the interview, the actor shared his thoughts on the recently completed script for the sequel, while also revealing that the Penguin will only have a small part to play in The Batman Part 2. “I haven’t got much to do on it, just a little bit. I read the script and it’s extraordinary,” said Farrell.
