Wilson Bethel is pulling back the curtain on why Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s most dangerous marksman chose to play hero. The actor has revealed what is really driving Bullseye’s most unexpected move of the season so far.

At the climax of Born Again Season 2’s premiere, Daredevil fought officers from Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force. He worked to free his friend Cherry, who nearly suffered a heart attack mid-rescue. This triggered trauma flashbacks to Foggy Nelson’s death, leaving Daredevil vulnerable to a beating and unmasking by the AVTF.

The Direct spoke exclusively with Bethel while promoting Born Again Season 2 and Imperfect Women. When asked why Poindexter saved Daredevil, Bethel said: “I think it’s [that] his main mission now is killing the Fisks. And they just happen to be on parallel [tracks]. I mean, obviously Matt doesn’t want to kill them, but he wants to, you know, put them out of commission or whatever.”

Bethel further explained the dynamic, saying: “So the fact that they are on a shared — they have a shared objective. I mean, you know, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So that’s where they start the season. Obviously, it is a really fun place for us to see these two very different characters.”

In Season 2, Episode 2, Bullseye’s attention appeared focused more on Vanessa Fisk than on Mayor Wilson Fisk himself. This follows Vanessa’s use of Bullseye to orchestrate Foggy Nelson’s murder in Season 1, which left Poindexter injured and imprisoned. He also visited the same church that aided Daredevil, seeking penance after learning Sister Maggie was absent.

Marvel Studios had previously teased Bullseye’s redemption arc heading into Born Again Season 2. With Jon Bernthal’s Punisher absent this season, the show appears to be positioning Bethel’s character into a comparable morally conflicted role.
