The finale of DTF St. Louis finally shed light on the long-drawn mystery surrounding Floyd’s (played by David Harbor) death, and it turned out to be more unexpected than anything fans could have guessed. The limited series spent seven episodes trying to decipher the killer. The search ended in an emotional and shocking turn, which only few saw coming.

Here’s a breakdown of who really killed Floyd in DTF St. Louis.

Who really killed Floyd in DTF St. Louis revealed

Those who watched DTF St. Louis, perhaps spent hours thinking about who killed Floyd on the show. It began as the central mystery and remained the defining narrative in the show.

By the last episode, DTF St. Louise revealed that no one actually killed Floyd. Rather, it was a case of suicide. As the show was based around the murder investigation of Floyd, this is a twist that few saw coming.

In the final episode, it was revealed that Floyd deliberately overdosed on a powerful prescription stimulant called Amphezyne. Floyd mixed the drug in his Bloody Mary, causing his own death.

His decision to take his own life came after a series of rejections, from his wife, Carol (Linda Cardellini), his close friend, Clark Forrest (Jason Bateman), and his stepson, Richard. In fact, shortly before his death, his stepson confronted him in the poolhouse and told him no one loved him. In his final act, Floyd signed “I love you” to Richard in ASL, which Richard interpreted.

The drug that Floyd used on himself was actually prescribed to Clark. Floyd took it from Carl on the pretext of fixing his sexual health.

Speaking about the big reveal to Variety, creator Steven Conrad said, “I guess I would hope that the audience has come to know him over the seven hours, and that this event feels sad, obviously, but foreseeable due to the conditions of this one summer where the only bright spot was this singular friendship that didn’t amount to ultimately be enough for him.” He added, “To have a condition of an adult life where you can’t tell anybody what is really hurting; you can only pretend like some trivial things might help. And if he had only been able to maybe say more to Clark, who knows how they might have chosen to spend that last week. It would have been different, I’m sure.”

All the episodes of DTF St. Louise are now streaming on HBO Max.
