Miranda Xinying Wang may be new to the LPGA Tour, but the 26-year-old is already chasing her first win. Her calm focus on the greens is the secret. Even after a rain delay that rattled top players, Wang sank a short birdie to grab the lead at the FM Championship. “We’re playing in nature, so it’s sometimes unpredictable. We just have to face it and prepare mentally,” Wang declared. Even though it’s only her first year as a pro, Wang has proven that she is here to stay. Let’s learn more about the rising star.
Born February 11, 1999, the Chinese golfer started playing golf at the young age of 8, displaying an innate passion for the sport. Ranking No. 5 on the AJGA Polo Golf rankings, the high-school prodigy showcased incredible talent and a competitive edge that paid off quickly. In 2015, Wang recorded 6 top-12 finishes. She followed with two major victories at the AJGA Reno/Tahoe Junior and the Yani Tseng Invitational in 2016. Despite being 17, Wang gave a testimony to her poise, something she flaunts even today. Wang’s accomplishments earned her First Team Rolex Junior All-America honors in 2016, and an ACC Honor Roll Selection from 2017-2020.
Heading into Duke University, Wang continued her commitment to the sport in collegiate golf. The Chinese golfer quickly established herself as a formidable force. Representing her college, Wang averaged a 73.33 stroke across 7 tournaments in her freshman year, securing Golfweek Honorable Mention All-America and All-ACC honors. However, a knee injury cut her season short. Despite this setback, Wang delivered a career-best tied-for-fifth finish, contributing to team victories at the Tar Heel Invitational and Landfall Tradition.
In 2018, she played a pivotal role in Duke’s seventh NCAA Championship, clinching the decisive match in a thrilling finish. However, her collegiate golf peak came through in 2019-20. She notched a 71.83 stroke average in her final two tournaments. Wang finished tied for second at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. With three top-20 finishes, Wang displayed resilience and her steady progression through the years.
Wang followed collegiate golf with the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) where she was named 2022 Player of the Year. Prior to turning pro, Wang competed in the Epson Tour from 2022 to 2024. There, the then 25-year-old finished 14th in the Epson Tour’s Race for the Card, earning herself an LPGA Membership for 2025. However, Wang’s career really took off with her LPGA Tour debut at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in 2025.
Miranda Wang’s LPGA Tour debut
The Chinese star opened her LPGA Tour journey with an even-par 72 on the first round. Even under debut pressure, Wang didn’t flinch, throwing light to her grit that once made her a formidable force in the collegiate grounds. Wang started right off the bat with a stumbling front-nine with back-to-back bogeys. However, a master of resilience, Wang quickly bounced back with birdies on the 15th and 18th holes. “I’m happy that I was able to get my game and my tempo back quick on the front nine,” Wang said. “It’s a relief to get the first round out of the way. I’m definitely getting warmed up and hopefully tomorrow I can play a little better.”
Despite eventually finishing tied for 29th at 1-under, Wang’s debut reflected a strong foundation for her rookie season. Following her debut, Wang delivered a top-10 finish at the Blue Bay LPGA (T8). Now, teeing it off at Boston, Wang is blazing, with rounds of 66-67 at 11-under, even amid the brutal turn of weather conditions. Currently holding the lead, Wang has even surpassed Hannah Green and Nelly Korda. “I don’t think I could have mentally prepared myself for another delay,” Green said. However, Wang was on a different groove. The Chinese golfer had already carded 8 birdies in her opening round. In her second round, Wand scored three birdies in a row, finishing 11-under.
With a composed lead following the weather disturbance, Wang is looking right on track for her maiden LPGA Tour title. Even though she has only spent a year on the tour, Wang is already shaping up to be a defining force in women’s golf.
