The Metroidvania sequel, developed by Team Cherry, has become one of the most highly-anticipated indie games ever thanks to several factors; specifically Hollow Knight’s gradual rise in popularity since it launched in 2017, with 15 million copies sold, and the unusually lengthy six-year wait since Silksong was originally announced in February 2019.

What is the release date and time for Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Hollow Knight: Silksong launches worldwide on Thursday, September 4, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Mac.

While most games typically launch at midnight, developer Team Cherry is rolling out the sequel at the same time around the world. In the UK, the game will land at 3pm BST, which translates to 4pm CEST in Europe and 7am PT in the US.

What is the price for Hollow Knight: Silksong and is it free?

Team Cherry has confirmed the game will cost €19.99 in Europe. A UK price is yet to be announced, but it’s similarly expected to be around £19.99 (although a prior leak did suggest £16.99). This page will be updated when the price is confirmed.

Is it a brand new game or DLC?

While it began development as DLC for the original Hollow Knight, Silksong has been expanded into a standalone sequel. In other words, you can jump into Silksong without purchasing the original Hollow Knight.

Silksong is pitched as a sequel to Hollow Knight but it features a new playable protagonist in Hornet, the former princess of Hallownest. Hornet debuted as a supporting character in the original game, so there might be some connecting story threads you’ll miss out on, but otherwise this is largely designed as a secondary entry-point.
