‘Weapons’ Star Alden Ehrenreich Wants a Hollywood Where Strange Ideas Are Welcome

It's tough to put a finger on when exactly Alden Ehrenreich had his breakout moment. Was it way back when he was 18 years old and found himself shooting his film debut with a starring role in Tetro, Francis Ford Coppola's 2009 rumination on family and the arts? Or maybe it was seven years later when he earned rave reviews for playing a woefully miscast 1950s actor in the Coen Brothers' Hail, Caesar! If not there, surely you could make an argument for 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, which found Ehrenreich stepping in for Harrison Ford to play a young Han Solo in that galaxy far, far away. Yeah, the film underperformed at the box office, shifting Disney's entire Star Wars strategy, but it's tough to argue you haven't hit the mainstream once you're an action figure.
