Varanasi: Priyanka Chopra Jonasâs Telugu Dubbing Garners Spotlight

Ever since Priyanka Chopra Jonas was announced as the female lead opposite Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli's ambitious globe-trotting adventure Varanasi, fans have been curious about every aspect of her return to Indian cinema. With the film being mounted as a global spectacle, one question has repeatedly surfaced: Will Priyanka dub for herself in the Telugu version?

Will Priyanka dub her own Telugu lines?

When Priyanka began shooting her first schedule in Hyderabad, she reportedly started learning Telugu with the help of a dedicated language coach hired by the production. Although the language was new to her, the actress worked extensively on pronunciation, diction and accent to perform her scenes authentically. Her efforts soon sparked speculation that she might also lend her own voice to the Telugu version of the film.

Decision to be taken later

During the film's global launch event last year, Priyanka had expressed her desire to dub for her own role. She reiterated the same during an Instagram Live session, saying she hoped to voice her character herself.

However, producer KL Narayana recently clarified that no final decision has been taken yet. According to reports, he said Priyanka is currently delivering her Telugu dialogues on set using a combination of English, Hindi and Telugu while filming the multilingual project. The makers will decide at a later stage whether she will dub her own lines or whether a professional dubbing artist will be brought in. The update has nevertheless generated excitement among fans, many of whom are eager to hear Priyanka speak Telugu on screen.

Varanasi gathers momentum

Directed by SS Rajamouli, Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu in the lead, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas playing Mandakini. The actress is also expected to feature in several elaborate action sequences. The film's production is progressing steadily, while Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani is set to begin work on the background score in September. Varanasi is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.
