Dozens of pints of vanilla ice cream have been recalled due to an undeclared allergen than can be life-threatening to some consumers.

Mount Vernon, New York-based Ice Cream Factory recalled its Vanilla G.Nutt flavour on Tuesday because it may have almonds that were not listed on the labels.

‘People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,’ states a notice from the nation’s agency responsible for protecting public health.

The company recalled 40 pints, eight quarts and three half gallons of the ice cream. The pints and gallons were of plastic packaging, while the quart containers were made of white paper.

All the affected products have an expiration date of March 2027.

The UPC code for the pint is 8 56781 00361 3, for the quart 8 56781 00362 0 and for the half gallon 8 56781 00363 7.

Recalled items were distributed in the Empire State to Golden Krust stores in Mount Vernon and White Plains, and to Farm County Supermarket in the Queens borough of New York City.

An investigation into the issue found that the mishap came from the company’s production and packaging operations breaking down temporarily.

The company has not received any reports of consumers getting sick from eating the vanilla ice cream.

Customers are advised to return the ice cream for a full refund or exchange it for another flavour. Anyone with questions should call Ice Cream Factory.

It comes less than a month after Friendly’s Ice Cream recalled 324 cartons of its Cookies & Cream flavour due to an undeclared allergen, soy. The ice cream was mistakenly packaged in the brand’s Vanilla Bean cartons, with a Cookies & Cream lid.

Just weeks prior to that, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) upgraded a recall of more than 110,000 cases of Rich Ice Cream Co ice cream bars to a Class II level warning of ‘temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences’ over possible listeria contamination.
