The two-time game show winner has pleaded guilty in a criminal case involving hidden cameras discovered inside a vacation rental property. The plea brings a significant development in the case against DeSena, which has been under investigation since last year.

Former Jeopardy! contestant Philip Joseph “Joey” DeSena has formally admitted guilt in a criminal case involving hidden recording devices discovered inside a vacation rental property. The plea resolves charges that had been pending since late 2025 and has resulted in a probationary sentence for the former game show champion.

According to an indictment obtained by Entertainment Weekly, DeSena pleaded guilty to two felony counts of secret peeping. Prosecutors alleged that he secretly placed cameras inside the bedroom and bathroom of a rental home in Corolla, North Carolina, where the devices were used to record a guest without their knowledge or consent. The recording equipment had reportedly been concealed inside USB wall chargers.

The investigation began on October 10, 2025, after the guest found two suspicious wall chargers inside the property and notified law enforcement. Local NBC affiliate WAVY-TV reported that deputies examined the devices and determined they contained unauthorized recordings of the victim.

Authorities issued an arrest warrant for DeSena on November 26, 2025. He later turned himself in and was taken into custody on December 1, 2025.

Following the guilty plea, the court sentenced DeSena to 60 months of probation. The plea agreement also states that he will not be required to register as a sex offender. DeSena previously appeared on the popular game show Jeopardy! in 2024, where he won two consecutive games and earned $44,698 in prize money.
