With Twisted Metal Season 2 finally coming to an end, Anthony Carrigan, who portrays the villainous Calypso in the series, has explained why his character created the survival tournament in the first place. In a recent interview, Carrigan opened up about the psyche of the mysterious “wish-granter” that prompted him to give birth to the titular competition.

Anthony Carrigan believes Calypso created the Twisted Metal race as ‘he enjoys the chaos’

While speaking with Collider‘s Michael Zimmermann, Anthony Carrigan said that he believes Calypso could have introduced the concept of the Twisted Metal competition to the world as “he enjoys the chaos” that comes with the perilous race.

Carrigan started off by emphasizing the importance of shrouding Calypso‘s motivations in mystery, stating, “I think there’s a number of different interpretations to it. Obviously, Calypso is an extremely enigmatic character, and part of the fun of it is really not knowing exactly why he’s doing what he’s doing.”

He then shared his viewpoint on why Calypso could have created the Twisted Metal race, noting, “I think he’s just such a fun character to watch because of how much he’s enjoying what he’s doing. So to a certain extent, I think that he enjoys the chaos. He enjoys the ridiculous nature of how high the intensity is. And I think that this kind of giddy and gleeful thrill he gets from just watching everyone go at it with each other.”

Finally, Carrigan highlighted the existence of a human aspect in Calypso‘s otherwise maniacal personality before teasing what is to come. “I also think that as a character, he’s coming from a real human place, too. I’m excited for characters to see how you get these little peeks into who he really is and why he’s really doing it,” he said.

Featuring Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, Will Arnett, and Carrigan, among others, in its principal cast, Twisted Metal revolves around the escapades of John Doe, a milkman who gets drawn into a sadistic survival game while trying to secure a better life for himself. Despite Season 2 of Twisted Metal ending on a cliffhanger, Peacock has yet to renew the series for Season 3.
