The token dropped from around $3 to approximately $2.65 within hours. That marks a 10.65% decline in a 24-hour window, according to CoinGlass and CoinMarketCap data.

The incident began late Saturday night. A gunman fired shots at a checkpoint near the Washington Hilton, where the dinner was being held. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were evacuated quickly by Secret Service. One agent was struck but was protected by body armor and is expected to recover. The suspect, identified as a man in his early 30s from California, was taken into custody. Trump later said he believed he may have been the target.

Markets reacted fast. Long liquidations hit $7.61 million in the 24-hour period, per CoinGlass data.

Earlier that same day, Trump had hosted 297 of his largest TRUMP token holders at Mar-a-Lago. A smaller group of 29 attended a VIP reception with a champagne toast. Grant Cardone, founder of Cardone Capital, was among those present. The event had briefly lifted sentiment around the token.

Price Context

TRUMP is now down more than 96% from its all-time high of $75.35, which was set in early 2025 around the time of its launch.

Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, and Adam Schiff sent a letter earlier this month to the organizers of the Mar-a-Lago event. They questioned whether the event implied direct access to the president and whether it was being used to encourage token purchases that would generate fees for Trump and his family.

Trump Family Crypto Revenue

A Reuters report from last year stated the Trump family earned over $800 million from crypto in the first half of 2025. World Liberty Financial accounted for roughly $463 million of that. The TRUMP memecoin contributed around $336 million.

Crypto ventures made up more than 90% of total family revenue during that period, per Reuters.

At press time, TRUMP trades at approximately $2.65, down 97% from its peak.
