Anthony Edwards won’t be able to make a third straight All-NBA team.
Edwards was ruled out by the Minnesota Timberwolves with right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome and illness for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Pistons.
The 24-year-old guard needed to play in each of Minnesota’s seven remaining contests to reach the NBA’s 65-game threshold to remain eligible for end-of-season awards.
Edwards has played in 59 games, but his 3 minutes, 8 seconds against Indiana on Oct. 26 don’t count toward the NBA’s records for games played.
He returned from a six-game absence on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks, but was unable to stay in the lineup on Thursday.
Edwards scored 17 points playing 23 minutes in Minnesota’s win over the Mavericks.
On the season, the four-time all-star is averaging 29.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 49.3 per cent shooting from the floor.
The Timberwolves, sixth in the Western Conference, are 10-6 in games that Edwards has missed.
