The Peter Bergsports drama Friday Night Lights rarely gets the appreciation it deserves. The film often gets overshadowed by the success of the NBC television series of the same name. Neither would exist if it weren't for the 1990 novel Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream by Pulitzer Prize winner H.G. Bissinger. That being said, the 2004 film is a dramatic retelling, and follows the Permian High School Panthers' 1988 football season. Armed with a stellar cast, this is easily one of the greatest football movies of all time. One performer who doesn't get nearly enough credit is Tim McGraw. The unique casting of McGraw as Charles Billingsley pays off ten-fold in one of the most impressive film debuts by any actor.
