Despite the fact that Marshalshas a central Dutton family figure to mourn, a ghost from Yellowstone's past is haunting the show in an unexpected way that could change the course of the series. Throughout the first season of Marshals, especially as viewers got the chance to see Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) coming into his own in his new spinoff, viewers grieved the loss of Monica Dutton alongside Kayce and Tate (Brecken Merrill). Monica loomed large over Marshals season 1, and working through that grief was an important identifier as Marshals messily navigated how to separate itself from Yellowstone.
