One of the reasons that people look back on '90s Hollywood with such reverence is that it seemed like one of the few eras where big studios took genuine interest in smaller-scale filmmaking. In the wake of the crash out of the bloated late '80s Hollywood, studios made more of an effort to find new filmmakers with either independent backgrounds or unmistakable visual flair to pump some fresh blood into the system. While many films with such a genesis were released to great fanfare and success, there were those who got their wings clipped and never got any recognition at all, like Money for Nothing. Released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution (a branch of Walt Disney Studios devoted to "mature" films), it was buried due to unforeseen tragic real-life circumstances, but it's now on Prime and should be seen for its surprising twists and enjoyable cast that's peppered throughout with future stars.
