There’s a long history, in the film industry, of history not really being stuck to. This can prove controversial if the historical event is an already divisive one, or if the event in question happened within living memory for a certain number of viewers, making the misrepresentation of the actual events prove troubling, at least in worst-case scenarios. Care does have to be taken.
