“The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Field Guide” by Tony Diterlizzi & Holly Black

Just finished reading the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles. I thought it was a great introduction into this children’s series. I feel like the characters are relatable. Mallory, the oldest of the Grace children, is kind of a tomboy. The twins, Jared and Simon, are about 3 years younger than her. Simon is the animal lover of the group while Jared is kind of considered an outcast at school. After reading this first book, I think I’m going to like the rest of the books. Great to read with your kids or to read to your children.

Synopsis: After finding a mysterious, handmade field guide in the attic of the ramshackle old mansion they’ve just moved into, Jared; his twin brother, Simon; and their older sister, Mallory, discover that there’s a magical and maybe dangerous world existing parallel to our own—the world of faerie.

The Grace children want to share their story, but the faeries will do everything possible to stop them…
