NEON has shared the first teaser trailer for The Secret Agent, the upcoming political thriller movie that hails from Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the movie is now slated to arrive in U.S. theaters on November 26.

“Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology expert in his early 40s, is on the run. He arrives in Recife during carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son, but soon realizes that the city is far from being the non-violent refuge he seeks,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.

What happens in The Secret Agent teaser trailer?

The video introduces Golden Globe nominee Wagner Moura as Marcelo, a political refugee who seeks asylum in the seaside city of Recife. However, he soon discovers he’s being spied on by his new neighbors, realizing that he may never escape the cruel consequences of corruption. For his leading performance, Moura won the Best Actor award at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

The Secret Agent is written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, who’s best known for his works on Bacurau and Pictures of Ghosts. Besides Moura, Mendonça Filho also won Best Director at Cannes. The movie also stars Maria Fernanda Candido, Gabriel Leone, Carlos Francisco, Alice Carvalho, Roberio Diogenes, Hermila Guedes, Igor De Araujo, Italo Martins, Udo Kier, Roney Villela, and Isabel Zuaa. Producers are Emilie Lesclaux, Nathanael Karmitz, Elisha Karmitz, Fionnuala Jamison, Olivier Barbier, Leontine Petit, Erik Glijnis, Fred Burle, and Sol Bondy.
