Bob Odenkirk has stepped into Tommy Wiseau’s shoes for a charity remake of the cult classic The Room. The first trailer for The Room Returns confirms the Better Call Saul star is leading an unlikely cast. That too, through a green-screen recreation of the original’s infamously bizarre script.

The project comes from Acting For a Cause, an all-volunteer organization known for producing events for charity. Shot in a single day with no budget, the film sees its cast perform against a green screen displaying locations from the 2003 movie.

“This is real,” Odenkirk posted on X (formerly Twitter). “This is true. And let me tell you, I tried my best to SELL every line, as honestly as I could…and I had a BLAST.”

Joining Bob Odenkirk are original The Room star Greg Sestero and Bella Heathcote. It also features Mike Flanagan, Kate Siegel, Cameron Kasky, and Brando Crawford, who also directs. The film will premiere on June 26 at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with all proceeds benefiting amfAR and Blue Collaborative, a non-profit that supports independent artists.

Crawford described the project as a deliberate inversion of the original’s mythology. “The Room was famously shot across a year with a 6 million budget, and a mostly unknown cast. With The Room Returns, we are flipping the myth on its head: shot in a day, with no budget, and a cast and crew that puts butts in seats like Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk and Mike Flanagan,” he said in a statement (via IndieWire).

The original movie, The Room, written, directed by, and starring Tommy Wiseau, premiered in 2003 to a limited Los Angeles release before spreading through midnight screenings nationwide. The melodrama follows a banker undone by his fiancée’s affair with his best friend. Initially considered one of the worst films ever made, The Room has endured for two decades. Thanks to its strange storytelling, inexplicable digressions, and dialogue that audiences still shout back at the screen.
