The Rookie will return for Season 9 sometime next year, with the new season introducing another rookie to the LAPD's Mid-Wilshire Division. Across eight seasons and 144 episodes, the ABC procedural has seen its share of rookies come and go, with the Season 8 finale marking the end of Miles Penn's (Deric Augustine) time in the program. Of course, Nathan Fillion's John Nolan remains the series' original and defining rookie. Since joining the LAPD, Nolan has evolved significantly as both an officer and a character, allowing The Rookie to introduce successors who carry on the series' central premise.
