Police procedurals are typically known for their longevity in the TV space. There’s something about watching men and women in uniform protect their cities that keeps viewers coming back. ABC’s The Rookie has certainly proven itself to be one of those enduring procedurals since its debut in 2018. Over the years, creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley has kept fans invested with compelling new cases, evolving relationships, and a steady stream of fresh characters across eight seasons. Season 9 is now in the works, and while the creators once prepared for the possibility that Season 8 could be the show’s last, a recent update suggests there may still be plenty of life and action left in the Mid-Wilshire Division.
