Long before The Paper, whenever there have been talks to continue and expand The Office in some form or another, it’s always been taken as a terrible idea at first. When it was first announced that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s instantly beloved sitcom was going to get a U.S. remake, it seemed like an idiotic idea, yet another Americanized version of a UK show that likely wouldn’t make it. Yet The Office ended up running nine seasons, and in many ways, eclipsed the original series. During the run of the U.S. Office, there were discussions of a spin-off, which was also considered an awful idea at the time. But then, that spin-off morphed into Parks and Recreation, which also found immense success. And even though there have been discussed spin-offs that went nowhere, like The Farm, the Dwight-focused pilot that ended up just becoming an episode of The Office, or the idea for a Stanley spin-off that was crowdfunded, then refunded, whenever the world of The Office has opened up, it turns out to be a worthwhile endeavor.
