The Odyssey: Michael Caine Gets Controversial Role Ahead of Christopher Nolan Movie

Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey may have sparked a new controversy, and Michael Caine is at the center of it. The acclaimed veteran actor has become part of the upcoming epic adventure in a way that may not please many movie fans online.

What is the new Michael Caine The Odyssey project?

It’s been revealed that an AI-generated version of Michael Caine’s voice was used to narrate an audiobook. It is based on The Odyssey and has been launched ahead of the movie’s theatrical debut, reports Variety.

Caine’s AI voice was generated by ElevenLabs for the 13-hour-long The Odyssey audiobook. Released on June 23, 2026, through the company’s ElevenReader audiobook app, the new audiobook has been created solely using AI tools. It also features voices from ElevenLabs’ voice library, along with sound effects and a musical score generated using the company’s music tools.

The team at ElevenLabs hopes The Odyssey audiobook will provide an engaging experience of the release of Nolan’s highly anticipated epic. It simply acts as the source material for the lore of the movie for viewers to get a proper idea of the story before watching it on the big screen.

“Our version of it is another retelling of it that we think is really strong — it does justice,” said ElevenLabs’ head of partnerships, Dustin Blank. Praising veteran star Caine’s contribution, he added, “He is a national treasure, and his voice means so much to so many people, and we thought that he, as the narrator, would be the perfect person to help tell this story for his part in it, and I think he does.”

Interestingly, it’s not the first time Caine has collaborated with ElevenLabs. Last year, the Oscar winner licensed his voice and likeness to the company’s Iconic Marketplace. It’s a collection of characters that companies can pay to use for commercial purposes.

Caine expressed his happiness about partnering with the company for the audiobook project. “It was a pleasure to be a part of Eleven Productions retelling of The Odyssey.”

The Odyssey will release in theaters on July 17, 2026. It stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya in major roles. Other key members include Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, John Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, and Jimmy Gonzales.
