Mummy fans have been eating well lately, especially following the news that both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning for a new installment in the franchise, which has already been set for release in 2028. The two first played the character almost 30 years ago, all the way back in 1999, in the original Mummy film. The Mummy grossed over $415 million at the box office, and it was such a success that it returned only two years later with a sequel that also added Dwayne Johnson as the villainous Scorpion King. One year after The Mummy Returns hit theaters, Johnson reprised his role as The Scorpion King in a critically reviled spin-off film. Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe also teamed up for a Mummy movie back in 2017, but it’s unconnected to the original film as it was planned to start a new universe.
