Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was first announced in December 2024 at The Game Awards, and the team at Naughty Dog have been working on the project since 2020. “It’s shaping up to be our wildest, most creative story yet,” they said in a press release.

“Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago,” reads the official description “In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.”

Last year, a report from Blomberg claimed that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet wouldn’t be released before the middle of 2027 at the earliest, with developers already experiencing crunch to try and reach internal deadlines.

However a new report from insider NateTheHate claims that 2027 is still the expected release window for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. “2027 is the intended target,” he wrote on X.

Naughty Dog hasn’t publicly shared a release window for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. However, it has been confirmed that the game will feature a soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. “Our incredible voyage into the cosmos also needs an equally incredible soundtrack. These guys are cooking,” said Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann in an announcement post.

Last year, Druckmann stepped back from The Last Of Us TV series to focus on the gaming studio. “With work completed on season 2 and before any meaningful work starts on season 3, now is the right time for me to transition my complete focus to Naughty Dog and its future projects, including writing and directing our exciting next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” he said in a statement.

In other news, the soundtrack to Okami is getting re-released on vinyl to celebrate 20 years of the beloved game.
