A neo-noir teen drama starring Kristen Bell, 2014's Veronica Mars might not be the first movie that comes to mind when you think of breaking records. However, the film actually marks a massive shift in the way in which film is both watched and, more importantly, funded. Veronica Mars was produced via a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, with over 91,000 backers pledging more than $5.7 million and eventually fully funding the project. Thankfully, the film was a success, earning plenty of praise from both critics and the now-heavily invested fans.
