The Conjuring 4: A Bishop Protects Viewers With Holy Water in a Texas Theater

A film theater in Texas brought in a bishop to bless the moviegoers before they go in for the screenings of The Conjuring: Last Rites. The ninth entry in the Conjuring franchise, it’s also slated to be the last movie set in that fictional universe.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are returning as Lorraine and Ed Warren in the feature, which is based on an original story that James Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick developed, reportedly from the Warrens’ investigation of the Smurl haunting.

Texas theater brings in bishop to bless The Conjuring: Last Rites audience

A viral video on TikTok shows a bishop sprinkling audience members with holy water ahead of the screenings of The Conjuring: Last Rites at the Cinemark Pharr Town Center and XD in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. The moviegoers were also given bottles of holy water and prayer cards featuring St. Michael the Archangel to keep with them while watching the horror feature.

Catholic traditions and writings regard Michael as the defender of the Faith and a warrior against evil (via Catholic Online).

Bishop Bryan Ouellette, who has previously been seen in multiple paranormal shows and docu-projects, seems to be the one appearing in the above-mentioned video. In August, a post shared on Facebook stated that Bishop Ouellette had canceled Mass as Warner Bros. reached out to him to be present for The Conjuring 4’s screenings in Miami, Florida, and McAllen, Texas.

Michael Chaves directed The Conjuring: Last Rites from a script by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Besides Farmiga and Wilson, the cast includes Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren, Ben Hardy as Tony Spera, Rebecca Calder as Janet Smurl, and Elliot Cowan as Jack Smurl.

The logline for the movie reads, “Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront.”

MySA reports that Bishop Ouellette was present for the screenings for just that one night. The Conjuring: Last Rites debuts in US theaters on September 5, 2025
