The College Fashion Find That Finally Put SHEIN on My Radar

I still remember asking my friend where she got her outfit.

We were sitting outside one of our college buildings, waiting for our next class, and she showed up wearing a simple autumn look that somehow looked much more put together than what I had managed that morning. It was not flashy. Just a nice sweater, a skirt, boots, and a small bag.

I looked at her and asked the question most college girls eventually ask.

“Where did you get that?”

She said SHEIN.

I had heard the name before, but I had never actually used it. I had no idea what was on the app or why she seemed to know exactly where to find the clothes she wanted.

So later that day, I downloaded SHEIN.

I figured I would go around and see what I could find to do in autumn.

That strategic plan was not long lived.

What Was I Looking For in the First Place?

I did not want to complicate my first search: autumn school clothes.

I desired clothes that were cute and at the same time, made sense to sit through the lecture halls, walk around college, have a coffee between classes, and sometimes rush somewhere because I forgot that an assignment was due.

However, there was another question which arose.

How numerous college-type outfits do I require?

I understood that I did not have to have a totally new wardrobe. I had to have items that could match with the other items that I already had.

I began browsing through sweaters, cardigans, simple tops, and trousers, skirts, jackets, and accessories. What made my week of shopping at SHEIN surprising was the fact that it was easy to be guided to a different idea of a complete outfit in a very short time. One day a plain sweater can be worn with jeans and another day with a skirt.

It was most likely the initial reason why I continued to visit it.

Instead of thinking, “I need a new outfit,” I started thinking, “What can I wear this with?”

That small change made shopping feel different.

The Autumn Wardrobe That Slowly Took Over My Closet

SHEIN

My first SHEIN order was supposed to be practical.

Two sweaters. A pair of trousers. Perhaps this was something that I could wear when the weather had become colder.

Then I found another sweater.

Then a skirt.

Next a jacket which would match well with the trousers that I had already added to my cart.

I, at one time, was forced to pause and question myself: Have I come here to shop clothes or have I just ended up analyzing my whole semester’s clothes?

The irony is that I started paying attention to the fact that I started to find it easier to make an outfit when I stressed on a few simple items rather than on following all the tendencies.

My most popular combinations turned out to be quite predictable:

Straight-leg jeans and sneakers under a stretchy sweater. A basic top is worn with a cardigan, a skirt, and boots. A jacket and a pair of trousers and a small shoulder bag.

Nothing seemed overly complicated, and the costumes were deliberate.

And that was just what I desired.

I became more concerned about what I was really purchasing as well. I would question myself before putting anything in my cart about whether I could wear it at least in a few ways. Would it be compatible with my current shoes? Could I put it on and go to school and see friends there? Would I like it once the season was changed?

Such questions proved to be more beneficial than inquiring whether something appeared good in a product photo.

So, Why Didn’t I Stop?

That is most likely what my friend would laugh about.

She showed me SHEIN since I liked her dress. At this point I am the one sending pictures of screenshots to my friends and inquiring about which sweatshirt they like better.

I was not turned into a person who buys anything new in a moment. On the contrary, the learning about SHEIN made me more conscious about which kind of style I would prefer. I began to construct based on the neutral coloring, cozy clothes, and minimal silhouettes and some items that made an outfit feel less typical.

There is also something fun about opening the app when you are looking for inspiration. Sometimes I go in with something specific in mind. Other times I am just curious about what people are wearing for the upcoming season.

And, yes, I do sometimes put something in the cart that I did not intend to purchase.

This is likely the origin of how this began.

I believed that I was downloading SHEIN to get a couple of l fall outfits to college.

Rather, a single outfit given to me by a friend totally transformed my approach to dressing to go to school. I no longer thought that to look like you had to have an enormous wardrobe. Other times it is simply a question of locating few of the things that you really enjoy and trying to see how many different ways you can wear them.

I must have been wrong in one thing my friend was right.

I ought to have downloaded SHEIN earlier.
