Only James Cameron can deliver a movie that grosses nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and is still considered an underperformer; such is the bar that he has set for himself. But even though the movie in question, Avatar: Fire and Ash, couldn't match the record-breaking success of its predecessors, it still ranked among the highest-grossing hits of 2025. The film debuted on streaming recently, and instantly emerged as the number one title on not only Disney+, but across the home-video landscape. Cameron intends to continue the franchise — he has at least five movies mapped out — but he has said that future installments would need to be cheaper and less time-consuming.
