Please raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimised by a sugar-sweet or woefully watery non-alcoholic beer.

We thought so…

In an era when more of us are seeking low- and no-alcohol options, or ways to incorporate moderation into our celebrations that go beyond Dry January, one brand has answered our call.

For a drink that sings in its own right and delivers on Mediterranean flavour, Estrella Damm has launched a guilt-free alternative: Estrella Damm 0.0%.

The beer of Barcelona is now here for every moment, whether you’re cutting back long-term or having a no-alcohol weekend. Perhaps you just want another option on the menu, crafted with the same attention to detail and Mediterranean spirit as the original 4.6% lager.

It really didn’t seem all that long ago that the only non-alcohol options on the market were sub-par versions of their full-strength siblings. The times certainly have changed, as Estrella Damm 0.0% has been meticulously brewed to retain its character without the alcohol.

It comes amid a surge in preference for low and no alcohol options, with over a third of UK drinkers (38%) now consuming these alternatives semi-regularly, according to YouGov.

Young people are choosing alternatives more now than ever, and the low and no trend is going further with fruit beers, whimsical aperitifs and shandys in high rotation. This only illustrates the influence this movement has gained and how punters have become more conscious of moderation.

According to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), in 2024, 20 million more pints of non-alcoholic beer were served than in 2023, showing the monumental growth of the market.

You may have noticed people want more draught options, too. Estrella Damm has listened to its consumers and innovated to meet their needs with the launch of Estrella Damm 0.0% this summer.

The brand rose to the call of punters yearning for a draught option, while in the off-trade Estrella Damm 0.0% is available in a 4x440ml can pack, now available at Sainsbury’s, with more retailers to follow later in the year.

In order to craft this drink of choice, the traditional brewing process still remains, making it a high-quality, well-crafted beer in which to cheers like you would any other tipple, alcoholic or not.

The brewers use a unique technique to keep the flavour in the beer. Firstly, yeast is added, causing fermentation to produce alcohol naturally, then, with an advanced technique called ‘vacuum distillation’, the alcohol is eliminated until a 0.0% beer is achieved. Clever, right?

Until now, during this process, the beer used to lose some of the aromatic components which give it its flavour, but the brand has developed a system to put these aromatic components back into the beer, so you’re tasting something that’s more of a statement beverage, rather than a substitute you drink only when you don’t want alcohol.

What we’re left with here is a clean and bright beer with a transparent amber hue and golden highlights, with a light foam and long-lasting, fine bubbles.

Whether you’re out for a mid-week lunch or celebrating a job well done at Friday night drinks, this no-alcohol option opens the doors to celebrate any moment with the vivacious spirit of the Mediterranean.

It would be the perfect pairing with fresh seafood, well-seasoned chicken, cured meats or a fresh tomato salad drenched in olive oil.

It’s the sophisticated and flavourful answer if you’re one of the growing numbers embracing the low and no alcohol lifestyle, without compromising on taste or the authentic Mediterranean experience.

Because why should you?

By cracking open a bit of Barcelona in every drink, you’re still enjoying the ritual of a beer, but you’re also bringing the sunshine, vibrant culture, good food, and relaxed enjoyment of Barcelona to every joyous celebration, no matter how big or small. We’ll cheers to that.
