Sebastian Stan is jumping from Marvel to DC in The Batman: Part II. One of Stan’s rumored characters is Harvey Dent/Two-Face, which would be the perfect reversal of his MCU role.

It’s been a wild 24 hours for Stan and his status in The Batman: Part II. Stan is a confirmed cast member, but his character remains a secret. Recently, Stan gave an interview with the French outlet Le Journal du Dimanche, where he seemingly confirmed his role as Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II.

“I also can’t say anything about The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent,” Stan reportedly said in the interview.

The internet went nuts with this quote, as fans debated if Stan actually revealed his character. Some fans expressed skepticism about Stan playing Harvey Dent because of recent photos of the actor with a shaved head. Harvey Dent does not have a shaved head. However, it did lead to claims that Stan was playing the sadistic serial killer Victor Zsasz.

Whatever Stan said in that interview, it did include information about Harvey Dent. The French publication corrected the interview, citing that Stan did not say anything about his character.

Even if Stan didn’t say anything about who he will be playing in The Batman: Part II, Two-Face would be an excellent role for him to explore.

The Winter Soldier proved Sebastian Stan can play the conflicted transformation Harvey Dent needs

In Marvel, Stan first portrayed Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers’ best friend. Thought to be dead following a train accident, Barnes survived and returned as the villainous Winter Soldier. Since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Barnes has been on a redemption quest, righting his wrongs from the past. It’s a conflicted character who started as a good man, became a monster, and has since tried to amend his mistakes.

Stan understands how to play a complex character who has been both good and evil. Audiences know Stan is capable of playing two distinct characters in the same body. The same idea applies to potentially playing two drastically different men—Harvey Dent and Two-Face—in The Batman: Part II.

If Stan is Two-Face, he must first play the noble Harvey Dent, Gotham’s hero with a face. Then, Dent transforms into Two-Face. Here’s the crucial point. Two-Face never returns as Dent. He’s a lost soul who sinks into the darkness, becoming one of Batman’s top adversaries.

There is no hero’s journey like Stan had with Bucky to Winter Soldier and back to Bucky. It’s a challenging role reversal, but Stan has the talent to pull it off. Director Matt Reeves can rely on Stan’s Marvel experience as a template for how he might pull off the Harvey Dent to Two-Face transformation.

DC might refuse to announce Stan’s character in The Batman: Part II. If it ends up being Two-Face, they picked the right actor for the job.
