There are crime books you recommend because they are smart, and then there are the dangerous ones where you start sounding personally invested in whether another human being reads them. You bring them up twice. You send the title later. You ask, a week afterward, whether they started it yet. That is the level here. These books create the slightly embarrassing need for somebody else to understand why a certain character, betrayal, neighborhood, or terrible decision has been living in your head.
