I have a terrible habit when watching a bad thriller. I start rewriting it in my head while it's still playing. Give me an interesting character and a reasonably suspicious neighbor, and I'll spend the next hour inventing a better movie around them. Sometimes the solution seems painfully obvious. Give the characters an intelligent conversation. Allow the villain to behave like an actual human being. Perhaps stop assuming everyone watching has suffered a catastrophic memory lapse.
