Slapstick comedy is, in many ways, the most basic style of comedy. Someone gets hurt and we laugh at their pain. Because of that, it seems like slapstick comedy should be easy, but the reality is that pulling off a slap or a hammer to the noggin takes real skill. For the iconic Three Stooges, that skill was making the hits look real, no matter how outlandish the scene was. For the gang that makes up Jackass, the laughs come from seeing them laugh through the pain. After all, if they're able to joke about what they're doing to themselves, then it's OK for us to join in the fun (just so long as we don't have to take part in the stunts).
