"Girls just want to have fun," said Cyndi Lauper once, and so too do filmgoers, more often than not. Movies are often fun, and if something’s a successful crowd-pleaser, it’ll usually be heavy on entertainment value, not to mention unlikely to feel heavy in the traditional sense. See Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and even sometimes unsettling movies like Jaws which, even with the horror, is still hugely enjoyable and easy to describe as “fun.”
