Terrifying Found Footage Horror Movie Is Getting Remade, View First Look Photo

One of the most terrifying found footage horror movies of recent years is getting a new remake. The remake will retell the story of one of South Korea’s most successful horror features.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is a 2018 found footage horror movie directed by Jung Bum-shik. It is now getting an Indonesian remake titled Korean Haunted Hospital (via Bloody Disgusting). The film debuted to a whopping 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics hailing it as one of the best in its genre.

Korean Haunted Hospital’s synopsis reads, “3 million views or die trying. A group of Indonesian content creators known as ‘The Ghost Hunter’ dares to livestream inside South Korea’s most haunted abandoned hospital. Juna, Adit, Bara, Arum, Yuri, and Daeho chase viral fame, expecting thrills and easy views. But once the cameras roll, the hospital awakens. Whispers crawl through the halls, shadows move without light, and their equipment begins to fail. What starts as a calculated stunt spirals into pure terror. Trapped inside a place with a dark past, they realize the horror is real and hunting them back. Now, escaping alive may be the only content that matters.”

A first look image has also been shared, showing the protagonists walking through the hospital.

Korean Haunted Hospital is directed by Anggy Umbara from a screenplay by Lele Laila. The upcoming remake will be released in Indonesia as 402: Rumah Sakit Angker Korea. An English-language remake of Gonjiam is also in development. A Philippine remake titled Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital was also produced a few years ago.
