Taylor Sheridan Is ‘Such an MF,’ Says Zoe Saldaña After Lioness Season 3 Finale

It seems that Zoe Saldaña was caught off guard by the finale of Lioness Season 3. Series creator Taylor Sheridan introduced a major twist in the closing moments of the latest season, bringing back a character from the show’s past. Saldaña has now revealed her candid reaction to the unexpected development.

Zoe Saldaña has revealed what she really thought about Taylor Sheridan’s unexpected twist in the Lioness Season 3 finale. “OK, I’m just going to say one thing: Taylor is such a bleep, bleep. He’s such an MF for this,” Saldaña told USA TODAY, smiling as she discussed the reveal. Sheridan brought back Aaliyah Amrohi, played by Stephanie Nur, in the closing moments of the season. 

Saldaña, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, explained that Sheridan was simultaneously writing several shows and often delivered Lioness scripts shortly before filming. She explained, “He’s writing so many shows at once. He has so many characters living in real time in his mind and heart. … He was turning in scripts a week before we were needing to shoot them. So we found out in real time that [Aaliyah] was in that [finale]. I think we were shooting Episode 6 when [Sheridan] turned in Episodes 7 and 8 with that big reveal.”

Aaliyah, who was the original target of Season 1, was ultimately revealed to be behind attempts to kidnap and torture CIA operative Joe McNamara. Saldaña also explained that the character’s return was not simply about settling an old score. “All paths led to Aaliyah. I love it,”  she said.

According to Saldaña, Sheridan could have limited Aaliyah’s storyline to seeking revenge against Cruz. However, the character has returned to the Lioness program with a larger objective. The actress said, “But Aaliyah has gone back to the Lioness program, and she wants to dismantle the queens, which are Kaitlyn and Joe. She’s a smart antagonist.”

Lioness Season 3 premiered on August 2, 2026, and concluded with its eighth episode on September 20. The series has not yet been renewed for another season.
